The Very First Event of the SDN Poland Chapter

It’s right about time for the Polish community of service designers to integrate and form intrinsically driven movement across the sectors and regions. With this idea in mind, on 19th of May 2018, the newly founded SDN Poland Chapter held its inauguration event.

Its purpose was to introduce professionals and those interested in service design to the world of the SDN and to co-create with them the future for SDN Poland. The after event informal talks continued until late night hours.

The chapter inauguration event started on the Friday evening. Choosing right timing was crucial – quite a few event participants had to make a few hours long trip to reach Warsaw from different sides of Poland (from seaside in the North to mountains in the South), were the event was held. Do you remember that in the last message we mentioned that we were overbooked? If not, then only just to let you know that we had quite a nice crowd of service design enthusiasts!

What was our idea behind the inauguration meeting? Of course, to talk a bit and present SDN but primarily to let the participants talk.

Therefore, our talking part was constrained to three main subjects: first, we introduced SDN, its worldwide community and activities highlighting the SDN Global Conference 2018 in Dublin; secondly, taking participants through the journey of early beginnings of SDN Poland Chapter and the main ideas standing behind it; third, we introduced the idea of #newreality, which is our theme for the first year and we gave voice to our special guest Adam Lawrence who shared with us few thoughts on trends in service design via video call.

In the second part, which started after a beer break the participants started to work! They were given a set of problems focused on the SDN Poland Chapter, including its cultural organization, challenges and #new reality. They worked in groups on the walls with lots of stickers, markers and good music. The groups presented the outcomes of the process, which served as a basis for long wrap-up discussions and later informal talks. Not only we were positively surprised with the level of engagement on Friday night but we also learned a lot!

To keep the positive momentum and deepen the involvement in the co-creation phase of the SDN Poland Chapter we are currently preparing Step 2 Workshop. Stay tuned for more news on the next event.

Touchpoint 15-3 Call for Papers deadline extended: “Designing from Within”

As the practice of service design continues to gain recognition and traction, a notable trend has emerged: organisations are choosing to build and utilise in-house service design teams rather than relying on external agencies. This shift brings with it a host of considerations, both positive and negative, that merit in-depth exploration and critical reflection.
